Alcorn State University
Alcorn State University is a public historically Black, comprehensive land-grant institution of higher education that provides access and opportunity for diverse students to excel intellectually, build character, and overcome barriers so they can become productive leaders who make meaningful contributions to society. Enhancing its historic strengths in agriculture, education, and nursing, Alcorn State offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs, including fine arts, business, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and STEM.
Cost of Attendance
At Alcorn State, in-state and out-of-state students receive the same rate of tuition and fees. In this regard, Alcorn is one of the most affordable HBCU’s in the South. Admission Requirements
At Alcorn State University, there are 4 ways for students to gain undergraduate admission.
Option 1
Complete the College Prep Curriculum as listed below with a minimum 3.2 GPA.
Option 2
Complete the College Prep Curriculum with a minimum 2.5 GPA and score at least 16 or higher on the ACT or rank in the upper 50% of your class and score at least 16 or higher on the ACT.
Option 3
Complete the College Prep Curriculum with a minimum 2.0 GPA and score 18 or higher on the ACT.
Option 4
Students who meet full-qualifier certification requirements for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
Financial Aid
As a very affordable university, Alcorn State offers scholarships for first time freshman.
Completing the FAFSA will enable students to become eligible for federal aid. Federal aid can come in the form of Pell and other grants or a loan. Grant and loan information is available on the FAFSA website as well as ASU’s website. Click the heading to learn more.
The President’s Excellence scholarship is awarded to enrolling Freshmen with a composite score of 28 or above on the ACT or its equivalence on the SAT (reading and math only) and a 3.0 or better high school cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale upon graduation. This scholarship is renewable each year expanding a period of eight (8) semesters providing the student maintains a 3.0 or above cumulative GPA. This scholarship covers up to $18,000 per year. The recipient of this scholarship must be a first-time freshman. All U.S. and eligible Non U.S. citizens scholarship recipients are required to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Click the heading to learn more.
The Provost Scholar scholarship is awarded to enrolling Freshmen with a composite score of 24-27 on the ACT or its equivalence on the SAT (reading and math only) and a 3.0 or better high school cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale upon graduation. This scholarship is renewable each year expanding a period of eight (8) semesters providing the student maintains a 3.0 or above cumulative GPA. This scholarship covers up to $15,000 per year. The recipient of this scholarship must be a first-time freshman. The University Scholar scholarship is awarded to students with 22 or 23 on the ACT or its equivalence on the SAT (reading and math only) and a 3.0 or better high school grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale upon graduation. This scholarship covers $5,000 per year. This scholarship is renewable each year expanding a period of eight (8) semesters providing the student maintains a 3.0 or above cumulative GPA. Department of Agriculture
The Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Agricultural Experiment Station, is committed to providing comprehensive graduate and undergraduate education and research opportunities in various fields, including general agriculture, animal science, plant science, soil science, environmental sciences, agricultural economics, and agribusiness management. Our goal is to prepare students for successful careers in graduate or professional schools, the private sector, or government agencies. We equip our students with a broad and current education in agriculture, along with effective advising, to help them develop the professional and leadership skills needed to thrive in the global marketplace.
Nursing
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program offers two options leading to the BSN degree: the Generic Program Option, which can be completed in four (4) semesters and the RN to BSN. The RN to BSN Program Option can be completed in two (2) semesters.
The BSN program seeks to prepare nurse who serve the community and clients across the lifespan through the use of evidence-based practice and application of knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to deliver safe, competent, and high quality client-centered care in a complex healthcare environment.
The College of Engineering
The primary aim of the Department of Social Sciences is to provide a broad education for students preparing for teaching, research, and service.
The Department of Social Sciences offers baccalaureate degrees in four curricula areas: (1) Criminal Justice; (2) History/Social Sciences Education; (3) Political Sciences/Pre-Law; (4) Sociology. Courses are required to be taken in sequence as listed in the degree programs. Summer school is designed for program catch-up providing needed courses are offered.
